Eagles First at Oconto Track and Field Meet

Southern Door’s boys and girls track and field teams both placed first at Tuesday’s five-team meet at Oconto.

The Eagles topped the boys standings with 236 points, followed by Peshtigo (191.5), Sturgeon Bay (146.5),  Oconto (34) and NEW Lutheran (28).

Southern Door’s boys placed first in eight events. Zack Lynch won both the 100-meter dash (11.54 seconds) and 200 dash (23.85). Ben Grota topped both the 800 run (2:09.86) and 1600 run (4:43.69). Mason Motquin won the 400 dash (56.99). Braeden VanRemortel topped the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches). Alaric Urban won the triple jump (40-2.25). Lynch, Urban, Makii Taylor and Lauden Berg placed first in the 4×100 relay (46.6).

Sturgeon Bay’s Gannon Evers was a double winner in the shot put (50-0) and discus (169-5.5). The other first-place finish by the Clipper boys was recorded by Chase Hasenjager, Simon Downey, Zone Wienke and Cedar Tomberlin in the 4×400 relay (3:55.41). 

In the girls competition, Southern Door (250.5) topped the team standings, followed by Peshtigo (174.5), Sturgeon Bay (115), NEW Lutheran (44) and Oconto (20).

The Eagles’ Frankie Nellis won the long jump (15-6.75) and triple jump (31-6). Danica Neville placed first in the 400 dash (1:09.08). Elise Jackson topped the 100 hurdles (17.57). Nellis and Jackson joined Kailey Guilette and Kyleigh Claflin to win the 4×200 relay (1:59.67).

Sturgeon Bay’s first-place individual finishers for the girls included Ella Tarkowski in the 100 dash (13.27), Tiviana Andropolis in the 200 dash (27.95) and Nida Zukauskaite in the high jump (4-10).

The Clipper girls also won two relays with Zukauskaite, Andropolis, Tarkowski and Cady Carlson in the 4×100 (54.8), and Tarkowski, Carlson, Julia Kurek and Jade Tomberlin in the 4×400 (4:37.64).
