Emerson Series Season Debut

An innovative performer of flutes of the world, Peter Phippen will present a concert at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County (UUFDC) in Ephraim on October 2 at 7 pm.

Phippen began playing, collecting, and researching world flutes in 1987. His connection to these instruments was formed when a friend gave him his first flute, an Indian Bansuri. Since then, he has released four CDs, which has attracted the attention of critics and flute enthusiasts worldwide.

Phippen is a frequent performer and lecturer at universities, schools, museums, festivals, and conventions throughout the United States. His educational and entertaining program covers the folklore and history of flutes from around the world and throughout time.

Phippen has performed at the biennial conferences of the International Native American Flute Association (INAFA) since 2001. Released in October 2006, Shadows of Dawn was featured for five months in the top twenty-five on Public Radio International’s syndicated program ECHOES.

The concert is co-sponsored by UUDC, Nancy Rafal, and Michael Farmer. There will be a reception following the performance and an opportunity to purchase Phippen’s CDs. Admission is $10 at the door.

The UUFDC is located at 10341 Highway 42 in Ephraim. For more information visit http://www.uufdc.org.
