“Emma Toft: One with Nature” Screening Includes Q&A with Charlotte Lukes

On Jan. 24 & 25, Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will present the second installment of its 2014 lecture, concert, and film series.

On Jan. 24 at 7 pm, DCA will present a free screening of Emma Toft: One with Nature. This film tells the story of Emma Toft, one of Door County’s most important environmental pioneers, tracing Toft’s perseverance as she fights to preserve Door County in its natural state. Special guests at the screening for a post-film Q&A will include the film’s producer, Dean Leisgang, as well as naturalist Charlotte Lukes.

Mark Glanz

On Jan. 25 at 9 am, the DCA’s Distinguished Lecture Series will offer a lecture entitled “Political Flip-Flop Advertisements: Exploring Popular Culture and Political Advertising,” presented by St. Norbert College assistant professor of communications and media studies Mark Glantz.

Dr. Glantz’s lecture will use Kenneth Burke’s theory of form to analyze political television ads that accuse rival candidates of flip-flopping. Romantic comedy films will be used as examples to explain how the theory operates.

Both events are free to the public, but goodwill donations are accepted. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made through the DCA box office, located on Highway 42 in Fish Creek. The box office is open Monday through Friday, 12 – 5 pm. Tickets can be purchased in person, on the phone at 920.868.2728, or online at dcauditorium.org.
