Englebert Aims to Climb into 3rd in State Wrestling Saturday

Southern Door’s Grant Englebert split a pair of 145-pound matches at the Division 3 state wrestling meet Friday.

In the opening round, Cadott’s Nelson Wahl pinned Englebert at the 4:35 mark. Englebert regrouped to beat James Gjefle of Brookwood 8-5 in his wrestle back.

“It really wasn’t the way I wanted it to go,” Englebert said when asked about the opening round loss. “I would have liked to be wrestling in the semifinals.”

Englebert returns to action Saturday morning (time TBD) when he faces Mineral Point’s Logan Schmitz.

“I still think the pressure is on even though I’m guaranteed to be on the podium,” Englebert said. “I really want to wrestle back and lock up third place.”
