Farmers, Go to MOSES on a Scholarship

The Rural Enterprise Network (REN) has announced the creation of a scholarship to cover the costs to send a local Kewaunee County producer to the Midwest Organic and Sustainable Educational Services (MOSES) Annual Organic Farming Conference. REN co-founder Mick Sagrillo commented, “We are calling the project ‘Send a Farmer to MOSES’.” MOSES is the preeminent learning opportunity for producers in the sustainable agriculture category. The annual conference is packed with opportunities to meet and learn from leaders in this field. Given the challenges small farmers in our county are facing, we are more than thrilled to make this available to a deserving local producer.” The conference runs Feb. 25-27 in La Crosse. In its 27th year, it combines more than 60 educational workshops with a trade show of more than 150 vendors. The conference draws more than 3,500 attendees. The scholarship process requires a written application. Finalists will then interview in person with the selection team. According to REN co-founder Jodi Parins, “Some of the criteria we are looking for would be a producer who is committed to sustainable practices, has a viable plan for the future and sees the growth potential within our community. In addition, the person we select must have the ability to take what she/he learns and share it with others.” Applications for the scholarship, which covers conference registration, meals, lodging and fuel, are available by contacting Jodi Parins at 920.366.5029, emailing the team at [email protected] or downloading the application form from KewCoFarmersMarket.com.
