February Room Tax Numbers In

Room tax collections for February 2008 totaled $31,899 in the eleven municipalities that make up the Door County Tourism Zone. Municipalities received $9,570, while the Door County Visitor Bureau reaped $21,054 for marketing purposes. For the month, just 46,400 room nights were available, with 14.5 percent of them filled. That’s a far cry from peak season. In August 2007, more than twice as many rooms were available for overnight stays in the county, and 68 percent were filled. The average daily rate for rooms rented in February 2008 was $87, a steep drop from the January 2008 rate of $105.
