Five Poems By Brickman

After a hard winter, that does not quite seem to know when to quit and just in time to inspire a languishing spring to bloom into summer, we again offer you, Dear Reader, five freshly fugitive morsels of sensible sapience from our own wise man for all seasons, Jay Brickman.

He thought
the reason their marriage failed
was because of her.
She thought
the reason their marriage failed
was because of him.
Both failed to recognize
there is something wrong
with every one.

I don’t like running
on the exercise machine
because I feel
that I’m not getting
anywhere.

Why do some marriages
seem to thrive
with grumpy men
and ding-a-ling wives?

While fish appreciate
residing in a tidy environment,
they strenuously resent
the disruption that accompanies
cleaning
their tank.

I became skeptical
of the unerring accuracy
of traditional wisdom
when I discovered that
you can keep bananas
in the refrigerator.
