Free Event for Mental Illness Awareness Week

Door County Public Health’s Mental Health Focus Group and the Door County Alcohol and Other Drug Coalition announce a free community event on Oct. 7. To highlight Mental Illness Awareness Week (Oct. 5 – 11), Rob Valentine will be the featured speaker to discuss “Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders – Strength Through Understanding.”

Valentine worked at Door County Unified Board as the AODA Coordinator from 1983 to 1986 before going into private practice for more than 21 years in Door County. He has always had a passion to develop a better understanding of mental health and substance use disorders and the interplay between the two, as well as how families and communities struggle to find solutions to these very complex challenges.

The program will be held at Stone Harbor Resort and Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay. Doors open at 6 pm with a community resource fair and hors d’oeuvres. No RSVP needed.
