Friends of Gibraltar “Close to Home” Holiday Fundraiser

Before “buy local” became a buzzword, the Friends of Gibraltar (FOG) decided to change the format of their fundraiser so that it would not only benefit their organization, but also other members of the community.

A few years ago, FOG nixed the sale of citrus fruits from Florida and developed the “Close to Home” Holiday Fundraiser. In the new format, gifts made in Northeast Wisconsin, with special emphasis on Door County, are sold at a cost that allows the vendor to make a profit, as well as support FOG’s mission of providing the students of Gibraltar Schools with unique, experiential learning opportunities and sponsor artists residencies.

Gift items in the 2010 sale range in price from $7 to $32 and include: Door County Coffee & Tea, Penny Lane Farm Dipping Sauces, Seven Islands lotion bars and earrings, Uncle Tom’s Newport School Candies, the Hardy Gallery’s book The Community Mosaic Project: Complete Artworks, 2008-2009, and Edgewood Orchard Galleries’ An Artist’s Food for the Soul cookbook.

Also available is a recycled cotton grocery bag, which was a community service project conceived of by Gibraltar alumni Kelsey Neddersen with graphics designed by Kirsten Bungener of Ephraim. One dollar from the sale of each bag will benefit the Door County Green Fund.

Order forms are available for download from the Friends of Gibraltar page of the school website (www.gibraltar.k12.wi.us) or may be obtained by calling 920.854.7100.

Merchandise orders must be received and paid for by Wednesday, Dec. 1 to be processed. Pick-up will be on Wednesday, Dec. 15 in Sister Bay at Dahl Law Firm, Ltd, located on Maple Drive behind the Sister Bay Bowl, during business hours (9 am – 5 pm).
