After a tenure of nearly 50 years at PortSide Builders, Gary Shefchik officially retired as of May 26. He had been with PortSide Builders from the beginning, working alongside his siblings – Larry, Paul, Alan, Mark, Sue and Fran – who founded the company in 1977.
Gary began his construction career in 1974, working with his oldest brother, Tony, who owned Greenbriar Construction. At Portside, Gary Shefchik began as a carpenter, became a foreman and led a crew for more than 13 years. He trained many of the original construction-crew members during this time, many of whom have since retired. He then worked as a construction coordinator for 17 years and as an estimator for 23 years.
Shefchick was an integral part of building PortSide into the successful company it is today, and he leaves a legacy of hard work, expertise, diligence and a positive attitude.
