Get Your Novel Started

Have you been thinking about writing a novel or starting your memoir, but aren’t sure how to begin? Do you have some ideas jotted down in a notebook and aren’t certain what to do with them?

Write On, Door County offers a four-part workshop with author Lynda Drews that will move participants from thinking about writing to actually working on a book. The class will meet on four Saturday mornings from 9 am to noon: Oct. 18, 25, Nov. 8, and 15. Classes will take place in the Fish Creek/Egg Harbor area. The exact location will be determined by the number of participants.

Participants will learn a seven-step process for turning an idea into a novel or memoir. Sessions will include: concept/point of view; creating memorable characters; developing plot; creating setting; crafting a scene; editing effectively; and finding an agent and routes to publication. Writing assignments will be given that will be critiqued by other class participants as well as the instructor.

Drews is the author of a mystery/suspense novel and a memoir. Run at Destruction chronicled the circumstances surrounding the murder of the author’s friend and running partner. Declared “a must for True Crime readers,” it was the basis for a 2013 episode of “Deadly Affairs” on the Investigation Discovery Channel.

In March of 2014, Drews’ novel, Circle of Innocence, was published by Whiskey Creek Press. Midwest Book Review wrote that the novel “excels in psychological depth and detail[.]”
