Gibraltar Announces New School Superintendent

New Gibraltar schools superintendent Tina Van Meer has previously served as both a principal and a teacher in districts throughout Wisconsin and Illinois.

The Gibraltar Board of Education has chosen Tina Van Meer to serve as the district’s new Superintendent/Elementary Principal. The board unanimously approved a contract for Van Meer at a special meeting on April 30.

Van Meer will be taking over for current Superintendent Stephen Seyfer, who is retiring in June after 15 years in the district.

Van Meer currently works as the elementary principal at the Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy in Monroe, Wis., and she previously served as the middle/high school principal in the Albany School District. She also spent 14 years teaching in various elementary schools throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. Her husband Bill Van Meer serves as the superintendent for the New Holstein School Distict, and son Lance will be a senior at UW-Whitewater.

School Board President Sally Pfeifer says that she’s glad to be done with the search for Seyfer’s replacement and that she’s happy with the board’s choice.

“Tina has a great background in being both a teacher and a principal,” says Pfeifer, “and she’s very excited about the combined position.”

Van Meer will be relocating to Gibraltar before she starts her new job on July 2. The district plans to hold a welcome reception for her, with a date to be announced later this year.
