Gibraltar High School Artwork Hangs in The Link

Representing a variety of mediums, Gibraltar High School art students in grades 9 – 12 are exhibiting artwork in the Door Community Auditorium Link Gallery through May 17. Under the direction of art teachers Sally Bahrke and Tom Smith, the student exhibit includes works of tempura, graphite, acrylic, colored pencil, clay, and ceramics. Spray paint, collage, and mono print techniques are also included in the exhibit.

“This really is a sampling of what the students have done this year, and represents projects we have worked on since September,” explained Bahrke. “The students work on a variety of mediums and have an opportunity to experience art in a broader sense than just one style.”

Running concurrently with the Link Gallery exhibit, 32 Gibraltar High School art students are participating in the Miller Art Museum’s 35th annual Salon of Door County High School Art which continues through May 26. Students in all five county high school and home-schooled students are represented in the show.

Two Gibraltar High Schools art students were recognized for their art projects in the Miller exhibit. Claire Toerpe received the Miller Art Museum Award of Excellence and a gift of $100; student Elli Opitz received an Honorable Mention and a gift of $50. The Miller Art Museum is open Monday from 10 am – 8 pm, and Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am – 5 pm

The Link Gallery at the Door Community Auditorium is open to the public Monday through Friday, 10 am – 3 pm; weekend show days, 11 am – 3 pm; and during all DCA performances and special events.
