Glass Artist Jacob Stout Returns to Door County

This month glass artist Jacob Stout will return to Door County for a show at the new K. Allen Gallery. Stout has visited for the past three years, demonstrating his talents as a master glassblower.

Stout’s work is as impressive as his skills. He and his team acheive very large-scale, blown glass cylinders with layered bands of color. This technique, called Incalmo, is an Italian technique.

Owner of the K. Allen Gallery and fellow glass artist Keith Clayton states that “the incalmo technique is a very exact process of joining together hot bubbles of glass…combine that with the weight and scale of a three foot tall peice of hot glass that must be constantly kept turning and your looking at a extremely physically demanding event.”

Stout received his BFA in glass from Kent State University. He studied under the now retired Henry Halem. Professor Halem studied under famed glass artist Harvey Littleton right here in Wisconsin. Stout now resides in Columbus, Ohio where he has his own hot glass studio. He shows with various glass galleries around the country and participates in the international SOFA exposition in Chicago.

The Opening Reception for Stout’s show will be Sept 20 from 6 – 8 pm. He will be doing demonstrations while being in the area please call the K. Allen Gallery for details.
