Go Fly a Kite at Crescent Beach

Head to Algoma’s Crescent Beach for the eighth annual Soar on the Shore kite and beach festival Aug. 20, 11 am – 4 pm. With favorable winds, kites can “paint the sky” with color and movement.

The Wisconsin Kiters Club will fly stunt kites and giant display kites and host a kite candy drop/candy blasting for kids. Club members will also answer questions about kiting and offer tips. A public fly area will be available where attendees can fly their own kites.

Children will enjoy crafts, street games and playing in the sand with toys. Easels will be available for aspiring plein air artists, and Mischief & Magic will provide twisted balloon creations and face painting. Create a kite sun catcher with CTI Hospitality, and Bay Shore Outfitters will provide kayak demonstrations on the beach.

Two new activities this year are a beach-inspired scavenger hunt and dyed bandanas. Dye your own bandana with Art Beet Kewaunee using dye made from beets grown in the Algoma Community Garden. All materials will be provided, while supplies last.

Smokin’ Tom’s Team Barbeque will be serving pulled-pork sandwiches, creamy mac and cheese, and Oreo balls. The Ernest Haucke American Legion Post 236 will be selling hot dogs, chili dogs and chips. Algoma’s Destination Imagination will sell its famous boiled sweet corn, and the Sweet Escapes ice cream truck will have cool treats.

All donations support the mission of the Friends of Crescent Beach.  Because all activities are weather dependent, a rain date has been scheduled for Aug. 21, 11 am – 4 pm. Find out more at friendsofcrescentbeach.org/soar.
