Helping Veterans with Unmanageable Expenses

Since 2008, Adopt a Soldier–Door County has sent care packages eight times yearly to local serving troops in all branches of military service after getting in touch with the troops and their families to find out what they needed. Each year, however, the group has received fewer responses about care-package needs, so staying in contact has become impractical.

Adopt A Soldier–Door County has added support for local veterans by installing new windows and handicapped ramps; making repairs to decks, water and sewer lines, garage doors, sidewalks, roofs and furnaces; and providing financial assistance for emergency airfare, dentures, utilities and vehicle expenses.

Additional service to the community includes helping to kick off the recent drive to provide three automated external defibrillators and two first-aid kits to the sheriff’s department’s reserve deputies.

If you are – or know – a Door County veteran who’s facing unmanageable expenses, call the local Veterans Service Office at 920.746.2226 to begin the process. Visit AdoptASoldierDoorCounty.org to find more details.
