Hike in the Night at The Ridges

The time between sunset and darkness is a great time for outdoor explorations. The Ridges Sanctuary will host “A Hike in the Night” on September 16. The program will begin at 6:30 pm at the Ridges’ Marshall Cabin (8288 Hwy Q, Baileys Harbor).

Many animals have special adaptations for nighttime activity – sensitive hearing, great eyesight, or the ability to move almost silently. Attendees will learn about some of these adaptations, then take a short walk as night settles over the forest. If skies are clear, participants will finish the program by locating some constellations and hearing stories about how they came to be in the night sky. Bring a small flashlight, if desired.

“A Hike in the Night” is one in a series of “No Family Left Inside” programs offered by the Northern Door Y, the McArdle Library and The Ridges Sanctuary. Programs are designed to get families outdoors exploring nature together, re-connecting with the natural world and with each other. A calendar of upcoming programs is available on the Ridges’ website, http://www.ridgessanctuary.org.

The cost is $10 per family and pre-registration is required by calling the Northern Door Y at 920.868.3660 or The Ridges at 920.839.2802.
