House Stars

An Amish quilt design painted as a “house star.”

Sue and Joe Jarosh started with a small shop on their enclosed front porch in 1984. The Jacksonport Craft Cottage, now celebrating 30 years, has expanded to feature the work of more than 130 artists and craftsmen and Amish families from a six-state area.

This year the Amish and local artists have created “house stars” for Craft Cottage Gifts. These two-by-two foot wood stars show many well recognized quilt designs and are great home accents. Many will recognize these in a much larger size on barns in and around Door County. These “house stars” come in a variety of colors to complement every home and yard color. Some are designed and painted by local Door County artists. Some are designed and painted by several Amish painters who specialize in signs for decoration in English homes. Jacksonport Craft Cottage Gifts, located on Highway 57, is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm.
