I Ate for $8.88

Ella Jacobs combines fresh ingredients with smooth, delicious custard on Malibu Moo’s frozen griddle.

Ever since I stepped into the little white hut across from the Fish Creek Marina with the lulling sound of ukuleles wafting from small speakers and gaped up at the chalkboard menu with column after column of flavorful custard combinations and shaved ice options, I have been hooked on Malibu Moo’s. Addicted, actually.

It is amazing what the friendly faces at Malibu Moo’s can do to a single scoop of vanilla or chocolate custard. With a few squirts of flavoring and a couple toppings, creating your own personalized dessert is so satisfying…and overwhelming. There are 21 different flavor options and 30 different toppings: fresh fruit, peanuts, and America’s favorite brand of cookies and candy bars, including Oreos and Snickers.

On one Malibu Moo outing, my friend Leah went for the Malibu Favorite Combination called “Malibu Island,” featuring mango custard, coconut, pineapple and strawberries. A sweet treat that tempted me, though I almost always go for “Get Up & Dance,” featuring coffee custard, almonds, Heath, and caramel (though I swap this for the hot fudge!).

And before you fill yourself up on custard, try a Vienna Beef Hot Dog and Johnsonville Brat for only $3.08. And with a variety of prices for various custard combinations – it doesn’t cost a lot for a tasty, filling dessert!

Brat (right around $3) + Malibu’s Favorite Combinations ($4.50) = flavor explosion for under $8.88, with change to spare.
