Imuka Singers Bring Energy & Passion to SDCA Stage

Southern Door Community Auditorium’s 2012-13 Fall/Winter Season begins Nov. 2 at 7 pm with Imuka. This 20-person-choir is made up of talented musicians and dancers representing a dozen community groups from the northwestern shores of Lake Victoria.

Imuka brings together rare singing techniques, electrifying choreography, hand drumming, multiple percussions, and traditional dancing techniques. Some of these techniques are adopted from the oldest East African folk songs and dances.

Imuka’s purpose extends far beyond music; in Africa, music has proven to be one of the most powerful tools in transforming people’s lives socially, spiritually and economically. It was out of concern for the less fortunate members of their communities that Imuka Singers was born.

Imuka uses the energy and passion of the music to harness the values and dreams of East African people and encourage them to work together for self-sustaining economic development of their communities.

Tickets are $15. For tickets or more information visit http://www.southerndoorauditorium.org or call 920.493.5979.
