Island Players Perform “Of Mice & Men”

Actors Brennan Krieger, Mike Berger, Todd Essig, and Ainslee Cornell rehearse for Island Player’s upcoming production, “Of Mice and Men.”

Island Players presents John Steinbeck’s classic Of Mice & Men Saturday through Monday, September 4 – 6 at 7:30 pm at the Red Barn on South Shore Drive.

Set in the depression era of the mid-1930s, the play tells the story of two drifters, George and his friend Lennie, a little boy in the body of a dangerously powerful man. They arrive at a ranch to work for enough money to buy their own place, sharing the delusions of living off “the fat of the land.” Set in the Salinas Valley in California, 1934, it is a story of hope and disillusionment, bitterness and friendship.

Andy Sachs, a summer resident from Buffalo, New York directs a cast of nine men and one young woman. Ranging in age from 18 to the mid-70’s, the cast includes local island residents, summer residents, and an off-island resident, Hervy Hodges, who has performed often in shows on the Door Peninsula.

Advance tickets are available at the Red Cup and the Rec. Center. There is limited seating available. Tickets for the performance cost $10 for adults and $5 for students. The show features adult language, parental discretion is advised.

Of Mice & Men is produced by special arrangement with Dramatic Play Service, Inc.
