Jacksonport Farmers Market Starts May 16

The Jacksonport Farmers Market will open for its 15th season May 16 at Lakeside Park and continue on Tuesdays, 9 am – 1 pm, through Oct. 17.

The market will feature 30-plus vendors this season, with half of them offering food items. Many local growers sell a wide variety of fresh garden fare each week, and the market also includes producers of locally made sourdough bread, baked goods, honey and maple syrup, as well as purveyors of Door County whitefish, smoked fish, cheese, eggs, meat, fresh pasta, jams and jellies. Grab-and-go food, snacks and beverages will be available weekly, and area craftspeople will also offer handcrafted gifts, purses, jewelry and more.

Birnschein Meats is joining the market for the first time this year to serve cooked brats, burgers, hot dogs and barbecue pulled-pork sandwiches in addition to its frozen products.

United Way will return with the Door County Food Share Program, and the Door Community Compost Initiative will be on-site to sell compost buckets and thereby expand its community compost program.

Karen Mal, Isaiah Spetz and Polkaman Dale Graf will alternate performing live music as the weather warms in late May and throughout the summer, and the Birch Creek Jazz Ambassadors will also make appearances.

The annual Door County Cherry Pie and Ice Cream Social, sponsored by the Jacksonport Women’s Club, is set for July 11.
