Judy Collins & Don McLean Begin DCA’s 2014 Season

Ira Glass

Door Community Auditorium (DCA) announces its 2014 performance schedule. Door County’s premier music venue will present a wide variety of concerts this summer and fall.

“We’re pleased with the quality represented in the upcoming season line-up,” says DCA Executive Director Cari Lewis. “The make-up of DCA’s audience is extremely diverse and we strive to offer programming that meets our patron’s varied tastes. We feel that this season does just that. And, we’re confident that our audiences are going to have a lot of fun this year.”

DCA kicks off the season June 20 with a powerful double-bill: folk-rock legends Judy Collins and Don McLean. From there, the DCA season takes off with the swaggering New Orleans sound of Preservation Hall Jazz Band (June 26) and the return of neo-traditional sister band Rising Appalachia (June 29). July features Pokey LaFarge’s old-time riverboat soul (July 2), the probing roots-rock of troubadour Bruce Cockburn (July 8), and a behind-the-scenes look at the world of radio with Ira Glass, host of NPR’s This American Life (July 12). Next up are classic country crooners The Oak Ridge Boys (July 14), swing sensations Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (July 19), and maverick alt-country duo Carrie Rodriguez and Luke Jacobs (July 26).

Ziggy Marley

August brings the poignant story-songs of Jason Isbell (Aug. 1) and the soulful reggae of Ziggy Marley (Aug. 10). The fall will see the fresh, young bluegrass of Della Mae (Sept. 1) and the return of the popular local music revue Buckets of Rain: The Songs of Bob Dylan (Sept. 14), as well as the Brubeck Brothers Quartet’s Tribute to Dave Brubeck (Oct. 12) and the second annual Play it Forward benefit concert (Oct. 26). Two shows in November will round out the season: Lakota Sioux Indian Dance Theatre’s presentation of Come to the Center (Nov. 14) and Riders in the Sky’s Christmas the Cowboy Way (Nov. 29).

DCA will once again feature two long-term resident companies this season. In August, DCA hosts the first-rate classical music of Peninsula Music Festival (Aug. 5-23). And in the fall, American Folklore Theatre returns to DCA’s stage, this year presenting the hit musical comedy The Bachelors (Aug. 29-Oct. 18). DCA is also the venue for various community events and concerts throughout the season, including a Jackson Browne benefit concert for The Tambourine Collaboratory presented by Holiday Music Motel (June 30), two concerts by the Peninsula Singers (May 11, Dec.14), and many others.

Tickets go on sale to the general public May 12. Special ticket pre-sales for DCA VIPs begin May 5. Audience members who plan on attending multiple shows may be interested in becoming season subscribers (subscribers receive VIP ticket processing and save 10 percent on tickets for all events throughout the season).

Show sponsorship opportunities are still available; DCA sponsors often have the unique opportunity of meeting the performers backstage after the show. DCA is also seeking volunteers for many performances this season.
