Len Villano’s Pic of the Week: Fire And Ice Carver

Sturgeon Bay’s Fire and Ice Festival was last weekend, where artists from all over come to Door County to carve ice and snow for the crowds in Sturgeon Bay. This is Tracy Coy from Hastings, Minn. taking a chainsaw to the snow while working on an igloo sculpture. I picked this photo because of the intensity of his focus and the grinning teeth as he carves into the large block of snow, with snow flying everywhere (including his jacket and beard) adding to the grittiness of the image. It works exceptionally well in black and white.
