Letter to the Editor: Hikers, Stay Off Ski Trails

While grooming the ski trail at Potawatomi State Park today I found more footprints. Either these people cannot read or they are “special” and rules don’t apply to them. Hikers destroy the ski trail and make it difficult to ski. Groomers put in many hours trying to make the trails nice only to have hikers destroy them. These footprints will be here until a big meltdown. There are many unplowed roads in the park as well as snowshoe trails to use. Please don’t hike on the ski trails.

This is not only a problem at Potawatomi State Park but at Crossroads as well as the other parks in the county where trails are groomed. It can take me anywhere from four to 10 hours to groom the trail. To see a hiker destroy it in 30 minutes is discouraging.
