Letter to the Editor: Tourists in Door County

My wife and I had vacationed for more than 35 years in beautiful Door County before we moved to Ellison Bay in 2015. Our retirement plan included buying an historic building in Ellison Bay and opening a gallery – Lynn’s Pottery. We have been very pleased with the traffic and sales – of course Lynn’s pottery is very beautiful and reflects her over 40 years of ceramic experience.

This past spring and summer I decided to “document” the scope of travelers to Door County by keeping a list of license plates that I observed in my meanderings around the peninsula. And the results are in.

I observed cars from 44 states, Washington, D.C and three Canadian provinces – Manitoba, Alberta and Ontario. Since so many states are represented, I’ll only list the six I did not personally observe:  Hawaii, Idaho, Maine, Mississippi, Nevada and West Virginia.

What a wonderful and fascinating place Door County is and the rest of the country knows it!
