Letter to the Editor: A Lot of Thanks for the Best Door County Fair Ever

I want to put out a big thank-you to the Ash families, Door County Fair board, 4-H board, DC Quality Market animal sale, animal entrants, the young artists and bakers, and all the supporting staff who helped put on the 150th Door County Fair.

I also want to thank the county board, administration, sheriff’s department and all the taxpayers for supporting the fair during the past 150 years. Let’s not forget the parks department and staff for preparing John Miles Park for this event and cleaning up after us.

And a huge thank-you to all the sponsors, because without them, the admission cost would be unaffordable!

It’s hard to believe that planning for this event started when I was a county board supervisor back in 2017-18, and I’m glad I can say I was a part of it in a small way. Paving the midway; adding the storm sewer, grass and trees; as well as building updates – all in preparation for the best fair ever!

I made it four of the five days, and I can say this was the best fair in my 50-plus years of going! The music, layout of the carnival rides, stock-car races, Dock Dogs, BMX, pig and duck races, wrestlers, vendor area, chainsaw carving, demo derby. We can’t forget the food, and did I mention the music? BoDeans and fireworks, along with everything else, for a $7 entry fee! And auctioned animals raised more than $91,000 for the young people.

Another thanks goes to Nick at Let’s Go Door County for covering everything that happened and getting the word out.

Congratulations to everyone who made this happen, and thanks to everyone who attended. A small thanks to the bulldozer game that took my money like it always has and made family memories, as always.

It takes special people and a special county to keep something going for 150 years. Here’s to 151. Say thanks to someone involved. It means a lot, now and in the future!
