Letter to the Editor: Are You Undecided?

If you support conservative policies but struggle with the boastful bullying and untruthful tweets, consider that character matters most. These words of courageous, patriotic leaders and highly respected publications are compelling.

“Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people – does not even pretend to try. Instead, he tries to divide us. We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We can unite without him … We owe it to our fellow citizens, to past generations that bled to defend our promise and to our children.” — Gen. James Mattis, retired Marine combat commander and former Secretary of Defense, The Atlantic, June 3, 2020

“President Trump is actively working to undermine every major institution in this country.” — Retired U.S. Navy Adm. William McRaven, who oversaw the Osama bin Laden raid, Washington Post, Aug. 16, 2020

“He has admitted that he cannot comprehend the concept of service above self. He cannot understand selflessness because he is selfish. He cannot conceive of courage because he is a coward. He cannot feel duty because he is disloyal.” — Capt. “Sully” Sullenberger, pilot of the flight that landed safely in the Hudson, The Hill, Sept. 5, 2020

“If there is another term for President Trump, I don’t know what happens to America … President Trump doesn’t care about facts. President Trump doesn’t care about the truth.” — Gen. Michael Hayden, former head of the NSA and CIA, Newsweek, Oct. 7, 2020

Scientific American has never endorsed a presidential candidate in its 175-year history. This year we are compelled to do so. … The evidence and the science show that Donald Trump has badly damaged the U.S. and its people – because he rejects evidence and science.” — October 2020 issue

“COVID-19 has created a crisis throughout the world. … Our leaders have failed that test. They have taken a crisis and turned it into a tragedy  … The magnitude of this failure is astonishing.” — New England Journal of Medicine, Oct. 8, 2020
