Letter to the Editor: Bringing the Blue Wave Home

Caleb Frostman flipped State Senate District 1, a 40-year red seat into the blue column. Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Dallet’s spring election margin in Door County was significant. The August primary drove hundreds more Door Democrats to the polls than Republicans. Sturgeon Bay elected a progressive city council with a female majority for the first time ever. There are signs of a Blue Wave building across the country. Our election results in Door County mirror what’s happening nationally.

325 N. Kentucky, right next to Poh’s Corner Pub, in busy downtown Sturgeon Bay, is election central for the Door County Democratic Party. The groundswell of community support has been tremendous. So much so that we were able to open the D-Party HQ four months ago and staff it seven days a week.

New faces walk through our doors almost daily. We have volunteers knocking doors every weekend and drivers who get our canvassers to their turf. We have volunteers who prepare walking packets, who input the ton of data that is collected and those that make sure our troops are well fed. More families are volunteering their homes for meet & greets than can be scheduled. People, including tourists, have walked in the door just to make donations.

Americans are enduring surreal and reprehensible actions from this Republican president. Not one Republican candidate will stand up to Donald Trump and defend the Wisconsin Idea, a standard that forms the bedrock of Wisconsin excellence. The Democratic slate of Tammy Baldwin, Tony Evers and Mandela Barnes, Beau Liegeois, Josh Kaul, Doug LaFollette, Sara Godlewski, Caleb Frostman and Tammy Sternard know our values, they share our vision.

This coming September 15, during the Sturgeon Bay Harvest Fest, as you are walking about, stop by the Democratic Party HQ on Kentucky Street for our Open House. You’ll be able to converse with Democratic candidates, grab a sign with a small donation or discover what volunteer opportunities may fit your bill.

Above all else, Vote Blue this November!

Will Gregory, Chair, Door County Democratic Party

Sturgeon Bay, Wis.
