Letter to the Editor: Love Thy Neighbor Has No “Except” After It

In this most holy season as we gather with family and friends, we have much to be thankful for because of where we live. Along with wars raging on different continents we have different types of conflicts here at home. There are people that are trying to divide us, to teach us how to hate people not like us, and bullying us into believing there is only one true way.  We have watched people who have come into power in our highest offices take advantage of those offices by creating havoc, telling lies and generally trying to stop any meaningful legislation.

This is where we come in – “the common man.” There are no others. It is all of us who care about our fellow man, no matter who they are. We care about our environment, we care about justice for all and we care about stopping these people that are trying to divide us.

So, our New Year’s resolutions should be that we are paying attention to what is happening in our country and closer to home. To stand up and speak out, to vote and say “no” to chaos, lies and corruption. Never forgetting that the true meaning of Christmas is love – love for family, love for friends and love for this country of ours.

Love thy neighbor as thyself. Remember, there is no “except” after this commandment.
