Letter to the Editor: Red, White and Blue

For some 50 years the Republican Party has been identified with the color Red, the Democratic Party with the color Blue. While there is no legal requirement for these associations, they are so ingrained in us that they are part of our subconscious. Almost every description of politics on almost every television show and newscast makes this color association part of their presentation.

So have you noticed how many Door County Republican politicians have Blue yard signs? Even Scott Walker’s yard signs in Door County are blue, not red.

Are they ashamed of the Republican Party, do they not want us to associate them with the Republican Party? Do they think that we will subconsciously associate them with the Democratic party and thus vote for them in November.

Please keep in mind, candidates are identified on the ballots as Republican, Democrat or other party as may apply. Please don’t let the blue yard signs fool you. Republicans are Republicans, Democrats are Democrats, even if they all do have blue yard signs.
