Letter to the Editor: Thanks to All Involved with Shipyard Tours

On behalf of the Rotary Club of Sturgeon Bay, thanks to all the guests, volunteers and event sponsors for the 24th annual Shipyard Tours on Saturday, May 6. Special thanks to Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, Centerpointe Yacht Services, the Maritime Museum, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mobile Bay, the US Coast Guard Canal Emergency Rescue Boat, the Sturgeon Bay Police Rescue Boat, Selvick Marine Towing and the Chicago Fire Boat for the gracious availability of their facilities for this great event. Thanks to the YMCA for all their administrative assistance in the planning phase, multiple local business sponsors for the tour book and Door County Coffee and Tea, Econo Foods, Kobussen Bus, and DC Printing for your part.

The youth Rotary International organization, Rotary Interact also plays a key role in the day.

Early ticket sales by the Maritime Museum, the YMCA and the Sturgeon Bay Visitors Center allowed early access. The tour attracts visitors from throughout the Midwest. Over 1,300 guests visited Sturgeon Bay for the day. Thanks to great weather and good old-fashioned hospitality, a good time was had by all. All proceeds from the event are directed at local charitable projects and youth scholarships.

The tour has expanded through the years from the rare opportunity to visit local nautical facilities to showcasing Sturgeon Bay as a true Maritime Community.

This year’s venue was expanded to include the west side waterfront with a dockside walking tour at the Maritime Museum.
