Liberty Grove to Discuss Studies for Gills Rock Properties

On Tuesday, Oct. 23, the Liberty Grove Town Board will discuss the next step for the three Gills Rock Shoreline properties that electors agreed to purchase last week.

The town will select an engineering firm to do a phase I environmental study of the properties. The study will evaluate the properties for any evidence of contamination from above or below ground storage tanks, as well as any contamination that may have come from the tarring of fish nets on the property.

The town will also consider an agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to pave a parking lane and widen shoulders on Highway 42 between Hill Road and Waters End Road in front of JJ’s Restaurant and Yachtworks. The highway is wider than usual in that area, and the width beyond normal highway would be paid for by the town. The DOT has plans to resurface the highway between Sister Bay and Gills Rock in 2020 or 2021.
