Local Author Earns Awards for Historical Fiction

Addy of the Door Islands by Ellison Bay author Judy DuCharme was a winner for Christian fiction in the 2023 Next Generation Indie Book Awards, hosted by the Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group. The book also earned the Ames Awards’ First Place in Historical Fiction for courageous faith. In addition, the Ames Awards presented DuCharme’s book I Want a Water Buffalo for Christmas with a First Place in Children’s Books, Ages 8-12.

Addy of the Door Islands also received an Honorable Mention in General Fiction from the Director’s Choice Awards presented at the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference, and the American Christian Fiction Writers Association named it a semi-finalist in the Young Adult category in the Carol Awards. DuCharme has also earned the Christian Authors Network’s First Place Excellence in Marketing Award in Broadcast Media.

Addy of the Door Islands is set in the late 1800s on the islands around Door County. Addy and her sister arrive on the Orphan Train steamer from Milwaukee, but no one is waiting for them. What follows are mishaps, adventures and friendships as they search for survival, a family and a way to deal with their feelings of abandonment.
