Meet K-9 Leo

Door County – The Door County Sheriff’s Office has a new four-legged deputy, K-9 Leo. He and his handler, Deputy Matthew Tassoul, are currently training in New Mexico.

“Words cannot properly express how grateful the Sheriff’s Office is for the generous donation given by Mike and Marge McCoy for the purchase and training costs for Leo,” Sheriff Tammy Sternard said. “The outpouring of support and donations we’ve received from so many people is just amazing.”

The Door County Board of Supervisors authorized up to two K-9 units during its August meeting. The estimated budget to bring the dogs on board was $24,650 to replace Odinn, the K-9 who died of cancer in June 2020, and $33,700 for a second dog.

Sternard said the fundraising efforts continue for the second K-9 and the ongoing costs to support the program moving forward. Interested in donating? Visit givedoorcounty.org to find out how.
