Miller Celebrates Three New Exhibitions Opening

The Miller Art Museum will unveil three new exhibitions May 28, and an opening reception will take place 5-6:30 pm.

For the Love of Chardin in the first-floor main galleries presents 38 paintings from the New York-based artist association Zeuxis: a group of still-life painters who select a new contemplation topic each year to serve as inspiration. This year, the work of Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin – one of the great masters of the Baroque and Rococo periods – is the topic.

Until Next Time, is six paintings by Elysia Holland Michaelsen that focus on recreational areas in the awkward moment between what has happened and what will happen again. Imagery of campgrounds in November, putt-putt courses in February and ski hills in July are distilled, altered and recombined to create compositions that are at once static and emotionally charged.

Still Life: Storytelling and Secret Messages presents 14 selections from the museum’s permanent collection that illustrate an art-historical presentation of the same title that curator Helen del Guidice will present June 9, 10:30 am. She’ll discuss the works as they relate to still-life master works.
