New Tribute Wall at Nicolet Beach Shelter

The Friends of Peninsula State Park unveiled a new tribute wall (PeninsulaFriends.org/tribute) at the Nicolet Beach shelter at Peninsula State Park on May 25. Donors who made a gift of $1,000, $1,500 or $2,500 could specify the wording on a plate to honor family members or friends. These donations are helping to provide three new orientation signs, 80 new picnic tables, 168 new fire rings and 28 new grills for the park.

The Friends launched this program last fall as a replacement for its memorial-bench program. The tribute-gift concept was originally developed in response to a matching-grant opportunity offered through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The initial group of donors contributed $33,500, which the DNR grant matched one for one. Although the matching funds are no longer available, donors may still make gifts to have their loved ones recognized on the tribute wall. Future gifts will also be designated for needed park improvements.
