  • Bird Sanctuary Breaks Ground

    “We could not have asked for a more beautiful spring day for our groundbreaking ceremony…That’s a great sign for things to come here,” said Rob Hults, co-founder and executive director of the Open Door Bird Sanctuary in Jacksonport as volunteers and supporters gathered on May 23 for a groundbreaking for the sanctuary’s bird care center.

  • Farmers Face Further Review

    A letter from county conservationists has put farmers on their heels. The Soil and Water Conservation Department (SWCD) sent a letter to farmers and landowners explaining that their nutrient management plans are under further review.

  • Educators React to Voucher Expansion

    Educators and educational organizations throughout Wisconsin responded immediately on May 21 upon learning that the Joint Finance Committee, voting along party lines the night of May 20, opened the door to an expansion of the private school voucher program.

    Fireworks erupted at the monthly meeting of the Door County Board of Supervisors on May 26 when Emergency Services Director Dan Williams reported on the final report from the Ad Hoc EMS Study Committee.

  • Sister Bay Optimistic about Construction

    The timeline for Sister Bay’s yearlong construction project is on track. Construction throughout downtown Sister Bay will begin shortly after the 4th of July and last through the following May.

  • Gibraltar Champions

    The Gibraltar High School golf ream recently won the Packerland Conference title. This is Coach Matt Meacham’s first Conference win. Three Gibraltar golfers earned First Team All-Conference: Sam Higginbotham, Grant Heiman and Matt Anderson.

    Kitchens lauded the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) after its memebers voted to adopt two of his budget motions that restored funding to programs of great import in the First Assembly District, as well as JFC’s decision to reject Governor Walker’s proposals that would have significantly altered Wisconsin’s long-term care programs.

  • Sister Bay Finance Director Retires

    Juliana Neuman appeared for the last time as finance director for the village of Sister Bay at the May 19 meeting of the village board of trustees.

    “I’d like to thank the board, and actually past boards for this job I have had with the village,” she said at the meeting.
