  • Board Buying Back Cherry School

    In 1985 the Door County Board of Supervisors sold a piece of county-owned land that included the former Cherry School at the corner of County BB and Cherry Road in the Town of Sevastopol for $35,000 to Door County Child Care Center, with the stipulation to have first option to buy the property back for $38,000 plus the cost of whatever improvements were made should it ever go up for sale.

    WHAT HAPPENED

    • The Sevastopol Board of Education passed two referendum resolutions. The first authorized the school district budget to exceed the state revenue limit by $1,500,000 for three years for non-recurring purposed.

    Action Realty II, LLC in Sturgeon Bay presented Cindy Kountik with the Multi-Million Dollar Award, Julie Henkel with the Million Plus Dollar Award and Lori Vorpahl with the GreenHorn Award for 2014.

    The Door County Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors is currently soliciting nominations for the annual Door County Industry of the Year Award and the Door County Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

  • New Program Coordinator at DC Adventure Center

    Door County’s Adventure Center is pleased to announce that Megan Schneider has been hired as the new program coordinator. Megan worked with the organization last season as a certified kayak and zipline guide and plans to have another great season ensuring safe and memorable experiences for guests in Door County.

  • Local Business Mixer in Sturgeon Bay

    The next Door County Buy Local Business Mixer will be held Feb. 4 at 5 pm at Third Avenue Playhouse in Sturgeon Bay. Attendees will have a chance to see the world premiere of the Sturgeon Bay episode of the popular Wisconsin Public TV program Around the Corner with John McGivern.

  • Tickets for Beer Fest on Sale Feb. 1

    Tickets for Door County’s biggest craft beer event of the year go on sale Feb. 1. The Door County Beer Festival returns to Baileys Harbor June 20 with more than 100 craft beers, live music, and local chefs.

  • Sister Bay to Begin Burying Power Lines

    The long-awaited burial of Sister Bay’s power lines will begin Feb. 2. Utility crews from Wisconsin Public Service, KS Energy Services, Frontier and Charter Communications will be placing all overhead electric, telecommunications and cable lines underground.

    Professional and amateur photographers have until Feb. 8 to submit their best bald eagle photos for a chance to see their entry soar across the state on vehicle license plates.

    City of Sturgeon Bay:  The city is accepting bids through Feb. 6 for fire extinguisher inspection and maintenance.

    Last May the Pulsereceived a letter from Philip Graupner of Baileys Harbor regarding the misspelling of the sign for Reiboldt’s Creek.

    Graupner, a German translator, pointed out that the creek was named for August Rieboldt, who with his partner Joseph Wolter, founded what today is known as Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay.

  • Door County Cracks Down on Farms to Protect Groundwater

    As a direct result of the mishandled liquid manure spreading by a subcontractor working for the Haberli Farms last September, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has designated the farm as a medium-sized Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO).

  • The Return of Lake Michigan Sturgeon

    Just off the shores of Milwaukee, in the frigid waters of Lake Michigan, a young sturgeon from Kewaunee appears to have found a healthy home. While the Milwaukee shoreline serves as a proven nursery to sturgeon released nearby through a cooperative rearing program between the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Riveredge Nature Center, the discovery of the Kewaunee fish marks the first time DNR researchers have confirmed a young sturgeon recaptured there was bearing a tag from the C.
