Notes from the Grove

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tidbits of information about goings on in Town Government.

• The Town Offices are in their temporary location at the North Fire Station. Town and Committee meetings are being held at the Ellison Bay Women’s Club. Please check the calendar on the Town Web site, http://libertygrove.org/, for times and possible location changes. The second Board meeting of July will be on the 22nd due a scheduling conflict.

• Julie Felhofer from the USDA will be here on July 29 to meet individually with anyone interested in learning about the programs available for assistance in paying for sanitary system upgrades. Please call Janet at the Town Office for further information and appointment times. If you are interested in the Wisconsin Fund Program please contact Chloe Schopf Administrative Assistant Sanitarian Dept. Door County Government Center, 421 Nebraska Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 920.746.2308 for program requirements.

• Administrator Bud Kalms is recording the progress on the Town Hall remodeling and Janet has uploaded the images to the town Web site – http://libertygrove.org.

• The large volume of truck traffic through Ellison Bay is due to Door County Highway paving County NP off Highway 42. The asphalt is being hauled from the plant in Baileys Harbor. Our Town Highway Committee consists of Supervisor Ann Miller-chair, Supervisor Frank Forkert, Administrator Bud Kalms, Kim Shumway and Jay Olson

• The Parks and Properties committee has met and developed modifications to the beach remediation plan for the Ellison Bay Community Center. They will be meeting with Door County Soil and Water staff to come to an agreement on the plan. The work must be completed by the end of this year in order to be eligible for a grant from Coastal Management. Committee members are Bob Tidball (chair), Supervisor Ann Miller, Regina Thorn and Jay Olson.

• Town staff will attended a RPC meeting at the County Government Center on July 16 to testify on a proposed text amendment that allows County Planning personnel to change zoning on parcels that have been inaccurately mapped as wetland. This is all subject to approval by DNR, and Army Corps of Engineers standards for wetlands must be adhered to.

• The Town Board would like to remind kayakers that launch fees apply to them as well. Seasonal passes are available. The proceeds from the fees help offset maintenance costs. Please contact the Town Office with any questions.

• Janet Johnson would like to remind everyone that the 10th annual community block party will be held August 1. It is held on Ranch Lane one block east of Highway 42 in downtown Ellison Bay. The road closes at 5 pm. Grills and coolers with ice are provided. Bring something to grill and a dish to pass. Be sure to bring a chair as well. A net will be set up for badminton or volleyball. Come relax with your Liberty Grove neighbors. Everyone is welcome.
