Sturgeon Bay Mayor Tom Voegele announced that he will not run for another term. Voegele will finish his first term as mayor, which began when he won the election in April of 2007. Voegele said he was proud of his effort to invite the public to participate in city government and restore civility to proceedings.

The city of Sturgeon Bay could not come to an agreement with the Jim Larsen Boys and Girls Club on a price for the 3.2-acre Amity Field property. The Boys and Girls Club withdrew its offer for the property.

The Green Bay Sloop Shipwreck, located in the Bay of Green Bay off the shore of Sevastopol, was placed in the State and National Registers of Historic Places Nov. 18. The entry entitles the wreck site to special protections as outlined in the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.

The Door County Real Property Listing Office started printing the 2009 tax bills, payable in 2010. The Lottery Credit this year ranges from $21.97 in the Gibraltar School District to $86.36 in the Sturgeon Bay School District. First Dollar Credits will range from $19.26 in the Gibraltar School District to $75.70 in the Sturgeon Bay School District.

Door County has free prescription discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo). The county government administrative office keeps a supply of the cards available. The card is available to all county residents and offers an average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs. The card can be used at Aurora Pharmacy, Bay Pharmacy, Sister Bay Pharmacy, Walgreens and Wal-Mart. The Door County Government Center is located at 421 Nebraska Street, Sturgeon Bay.

Jefferson Bus Lines, the Amtrak Thruway bus service, now offers through ticketing for bus service and connecting Amtrak train services on http://www.Amtrak.com. Passengers from any city with a bus stop along the Jefferson Lines route can buy a through ticket to Chicago or beyond (with a connection to Amtrak Hiawatha service in Milwaukee) on http://www.Amtrak.com or through Amtrak’s phone service. Passengers can also purchase a through ticket to any point west to Seattle/Portland (with connection to Amtrak Empire Builder service in St. Paul). The Wisconsin Department of Transportation DOT has updated the intercity bus Web site and Getting Around Wisconsin without a Car Guide at http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/travel/transit/intercity.htm.
