Obituary: Alma Marie Vandertie

June 19, 1931 – Nov. 29, 2020

Alma Marie Vandertie, 89, of Brussels died at home. She was born to Henry and Josephine (Dubois) Berger. On Nov. 5, 1947, she married Lawrence J. Vandertie in Namur.

Alma and Lawrence began their careers in business running a milk route. Together they started a tavern called the 57 Club. In 1964, they purchased a bar in Brussels and named it the A&L Bar. After Lawrence died, Alma changed the name to Alma’s. She loved to polka dance and enjoyed many years of playing cards.

Alma is survived by two daughters, Bonnie (Gary) Renard, Sturgeon Bay; and Beverly (Joe) Wautier, Brussels; four grandchildren, Chris (Ann) Renard Sturgeon Bay; Marissa (Jason) Norton, Brussels; Nathan (Alexa) Wautier, Madison; and Cathy Jo (Joe) Albert, Luxemburg; 10 great-grandchildren: Samantha, Gabby, Taylor, and Carrie Renard; Regan and Nicole Norton; Gus and Ivan Wautier, and Noah and Vinny Albert; many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Carrie Ann Renard; in-laws: Nelson (Josie) Vandertie; sister, Della (Marvin) Lemens; and god-daughter, Shelby (Robert) Davister.

Private family services will be conducted, with entombment in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
