Obituary: Darlene Kallaus

April 19, 1936 ~ August 12, 2021

Darlene Kallaus, 85, of the Town of Baileys Harbor, died on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at the Algoma Long Term Care Center.

She was born to Arthur William and Ruth Lillian (Sandholm) Kallaus on April 19, 1936 in Gary, IN. In 1961 she graduated from Indiana University with her Bachelor of Science degree.

She taught at Rock Island School District. Darlene was also with Milwaukee Girl Scouts before coming to Door County. For many years she and Nancy Williams owned and operated the Parent Motel which they purchased from Homer and Luella Parent in Baileys Harbor. Darlene loved her Yorkies and photography. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach, walking and flying kites.

Darlene will be deeply missed by her special friend, Nancy Williams and other friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Gary Kallaus.

A Service in Celebration of her life will be held at St. Agnes’ Episcopal Church, 806 4th Street, Algoma, WI 54201 on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 1pm with Fr. Robert Hoppe officiating. Masks will be required due to Covid.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be given to Door County Humane Society, 3475 Park Drive, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 or the Sturgeon Bay YMCA Scholarship Fund, 1900 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235.
