Obituary: Harold “Harry” Arthur Kohls

Harold “Harry” Arthur Kohls, 82, of the Town of Sevastopol died at Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay.

Harry was born in Jacksonport to Amelia and Arthur Kohls. He entered the Army in 1955 after attending Sevastopol High School. After his service in 1958, Harry worked in Milwaukee for several years.

He married Evelyn Brungraber on June 11, 1960, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport. They spent almost 60 years together, most of them in Door County.

Harry worked for Peterson Builders, then joined the Navy office in Sturgeon Bay. In 1995, Harry moved to Ingleside, Texas, and retired from the Navy office in 1997.

Surviving Harry are his wife, Evelyn, and their two sons: Warren (Holli) of Sturgeon Bay, and Brian (Johanna) of Fairhope, Alabama; six grandchildren: Warren (Mehgan) Kohls II of Waupaca, Wisconsin, Lance Kohls of Milwaukee, and Arielle “Alister” Kohls of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and Brandon Kohls of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Isabelle Kohls of Fairhope, Alabama, and Noah Kohls of Fairhope, Alabama; one great-grandchild: Cora Kohls of Waupaca, Wisconsin. Harry is also survived by his brother, Donald (Donna) Kohls of Maple Heights, Ohio, and sister, Bernice (Edward) Henning of Sheboygan Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Gertrude (Ray) Duman. 

Visitation for family and friends was held at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Valmy on Friday, May 17, after 9:30 a.m.

A memorial service followed at 11 am, with Pastor Benjamin Enstad officiating. Harry will be laid to rest on the family property on Lost Lake in the Town of Jacksonport.

Memorials may be given in Harry’s name for Zion Lutheran School (3937 County Road V, Egg Harbor, WI 54209).
