Obituary: Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Lois Fonferek

Jacqueline “Jackie” Lois Fonferek, 90, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Friday afternoon, August 19, 2016 at Anna’s Healthcare CBRF.

She was born July 11, 1926 in Green Bay, the daughter of Alvin and Mable (Connelly) Pfeifer. Jackie attended Cathedral School and St. Joseph’s Academy in Green Bay. After graduating in 1944, she worked at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Jackie then went to work for the Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company in Green Bay. There, she met John Robert Fonferek, and they were united in marriage on October 4, 1947 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay. Jackie and John resided in Green Bay, and she was employed as a secretary for the Bellin School of Nursing for 10 years until they moved to Sturgeon Bay in 1979, due to John being transferred. Jackie and John shared over 57 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2005.

Jackie enjoyed knitting, counting cross stitch, and other crafts, but her greatest passion was gardening. She was a longtime member and past president of the Sturgeon Bay Home and Garden Club, member of the Red Hatters and the Wisconsin Telephone Retiree Group, and also of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay.

Jackie will be missed by her sons, Jeffrey, John (Patti), both of Green Bay, and Joseph (Kim) of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Becky (John) Wasikowski, Jessica (special friend, Robert) Fonferek and Heather (Jason) Huss, Brittany (special friend, Ryan) and Brent Fonferek; great-grandchildren; and special friend, Bonnie Fonferek; and other friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Jimmy; and in-laws, Ruby and Val Schneider.

Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery Columbarium.

Memorials may be given in Jackie’s name for the Sturgeon Bay Home & Garden Club or the Red Hatters.
