Obituary: Jeanette J. Spiegle

November 10, 1926 ~ August 9, 2022

Jeanette Johanna (Baumann) Spiegle, 95, of Sturgeon Bay, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. Jeanette was born on November 10, 1926, in Maplewood, WI on the family farm to Henry J and Ethel L (Sperber) Baumann. Jeanette graduated from Algoma High School in 1944. She married Reuben Spiegle on April 7, 1945, and they were married 25 years before Reuben passed away on May 4, 1970.

Jeanette worked in various jobs over her lifetime ending her working career as a Teller at Baylake Bank in 1996. She loved her co-workers, and they loved her, calling her “Ma.” They loved to tease her and she was always a good sport. Jeanette also loved doing volunteer work. As a dedicated member of St Peter’s Lutheran Church, she served on Altar Guild, Faithful Hands, assisted with chapel at nursing homes, and assembling the church bulletin. She helped wherever she was needed. She also volunteered at Clothe My People for many years until the age of 93.

Jeanette’s faith was very important to her, and her greatest love and pride was her ever growing family. She delighted in every visit, whether at her home or traveling to see them. She enjoyed sharing fond memories from her childhood years. Jeanette loved to crochet and made each of her many great grandchildren a baby afghan. She also made hundreds of dishcloths and hand towels. Her hands were never idle. She enjoyed bus trips, card playing, dancing, reading, gardening and celebrating with family and friends, with an occasional old fashioned or beer.

Jeanette had the gift of hospitality and always made sure everyone had enough to eat. She was known for her delicious homemade pies and potato salad. Her kind and generous spirit made her a joy to be with and she was a true example of a Christ follower. She will be greatly missed, but will live forever in our hearts. We don’t say goodbye, but until we meet again on that beautiful shore.
