Obituary: Jeannette Stokel

December 24, 1922 ~ November 9, 2021

Jeannette Lena Stokel, 98, of Forestville died at Anna’s House in Sturgeon Bay on November 9, 2021.  She was born December 24, 1922, in Newmarket, New Hampshire to Homer and Helen (Roy) Lemieux.

Jeannette was born at home on Christmas Eve.  After grade school, she went to work in the factories to help her family during the Great Depression.  On June 3, 1944 she married Benjamin Joseph Stokel, together they owned and operated a farm in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for many years.  Her husband preceded her in death on May 29, 1981. 

After her husband died, Jeannette split her time between Wisconsin and California by her daughters.  She eventually settled in California and later moved to Door County in 2016.  Jeannette enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, playing cards, dancing, and reading.  She liked watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.  Her faith was also very important to her.

Survivors include a daughter, Roseanne (James) Cisler, Sturgeon Bay; four grandchildren, Valerie, John, Stacy, and Scott; three great grandchildren, Jake, Lexi, and Paige; a brother, Paul Lemieux, Dover, New Hampshire; a sister, Leona Butler, Florida; a son-in-law, James Lanners, LaMesa, CA; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Kathy Lanners; two brothers, Romeo (Theresa) Lemieux, Raymond (Lana) Lemieux; two sisters, Doris (Al) Houle and Pauline  Schanda.

Memorial services will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Forbes Funeral Home.  Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.  Inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in New Hampshire by her husband.
