Obituary: June Dorothy (Kuehn) De Meuse

June Dorothy (Kuehn) De Meuse, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, 93, of the Town of Sevastopol, Sturgeon Bay, fell asleep in the loving arms of her family and awoke in the arms of the Lord, Saturday afternoon, December 10, 2016 while at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay.

She was born at the family home (Mathey Rd. and Monument Point Rd.) in the Town of Egg Harbor on July 15, 1923, the daughter of Otto and Johanna “Hannah” (Mosgaller) Kuehn. June attended Carlsville school and graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1941. She initially worked as a welder for Leathem Smith Shipyard in Sturgeon Bay during World War II. On November 18, 1944, June was united in marriage to Elmer Edward De Meuse at Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Institute where she was a lifelong member. They were blessed with nearly 48 years of marriage. Elmer preceded June in death on August 18, 1992.

Through her church, she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and the Lakeside Band.

June loved to travel. Mexico became a second honeymoon for June and Elmer. She and her sister, Hannah, would often talk about the fun they had together in Hawaii. June had many talents, cooking, gardening, canning, flower arranging, stitchery and much more. She will always be remembered for being an amazing baker. Visitors and family were always well fed and taken care of when visiting her home. June loved her house, and decorating it beautifully brought great joy to her, but her greatest joy in life was making a loving home for Elmer and her children. Gathering together at June’s home each year for her birthday became something her family, friends, and neighbors always looked forward to – a celebration of June’s life. June put God before all else, and through Him, she drew strength. Being a good Christian was central to June’s life and was evident in everything that she would do.

Her love will live on in the hearts of her daughter, Judy (Brian) Orthober of Sturgeon Bay, six sons, Jim (Dianne) De Meuse of Luxemburg, Jerry (Diane) De Meuse of Pulaski, Ken (Barb) De Meuse of Minnetonka, MN, Joe (friend, Kathy) De Meuse of Sturgeon Bay, Danny De Meuse (at home) Sturgeon Bay, Larry (Maggie) De Meuse of Sturgeon Bay; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

June was preceded in death by her parents; 11 brothers and sisters, infant brother, Charlie, Otto, Mary Guralski, Rose Kubbernus, Joseph, Frank, Anton, Charles, infant brother, Louis, Hannah Entringer and infant daughter, Evelyn.

No greater honor was given to her son Danny, than to take care of his mother, June; they were inseparable, doing everything together; they were best friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute with Fr. Robert Stegmann as celebrant. June will be laid to rest in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Nicolet Memorial Gardens in the Town of Scott, Green Bay.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with the Rosary to be prayed at 3:40 p.m. and a parish wake service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Saturday morning, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Memorials may be given in June’s honor for Saints Peter and Paul Parish.

“Above all, June’s pretty blue eyes, her soft gentle voice, her sweetness and kindness will be missed the most. She will be loved forever.”
