Obituary: Katie McConkey

March 5, 1988 ~ August 25, 2020

Katie McConkey (and her smile), 32, of Sturgeon Bay, formerly of Fish Creek, died early Tuesday morning, August 25, 2020.

Katherine Lynn McConkey was born March 5, 1988 in Bloomington, IL, the daughter of Gary Lynn McConkey and Kathy Ann (Davis) McConkey. Her family moved to Door County in June of 1993, and she attended Gibraltar Schools and the Community Church of Fish Creek. Katie graduated from Gibraltar High School in 2006 and continued her education at Northeastern Wisconsin Technical College in Sturgeon Bay.

Her smiling face often greeted community members at the Piggly Wiggly in Sister Bay, the Northern Door YMCA in Fish Creek and also at the YMCA in Sturgeon Bay, and at the Main Street Market in Egg Harbor. At each of those places, and even with her own house and pet sitting business, Katie loved helping others; she was a very hard worker.

Katie will be deeply missed by her mother, Kathy of Fish Creek; four siblings, Todd (Laura) McConkey of Elburn, IL, Pamela Beasley of Sullivan, IN, Michael Webb of Chicago, IL, and Lee Ann (Christopher Heil) McConkey (and their son, Brooks) of Fish Creek; uncles and aunts, William aka “Uncle Handsome” (Sandy) McConkey of Colorado Springs, CO, Mary Lynn Davis-Ajami of Bloomington, IN, and Donald Davis of Ladera Ranch, CA; cousins; nieces and nephews; other relatives; her best friend whom she loved like a sister, Amanda Moegenburg (and her son, Axel) of Sturgeon Bay; and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father; paternal grandfather, Corwin McConkey, and paternal grandmother, Betty (Peter) McConkey Carr; maternal grandparents, Hubert and Olive (Manella) Davis; and other relatives.

Katie’s life will be honored with a graveside service at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Blossomberg Cemetery in Peninsula State Park with Pastor Joe McConkey officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her father, Gary.

Relatives and friends are welcome join in the funeral procession in the Gibraltar School parking lot at 3924 State Highway 42, 2020 at 11:20 a.m. with the procession departing for the cemetery at 11:30 a.m.

Gathering of family and friends will continue after the graveside service, (outside) at 7151 Horseshoe Bay Rd., Egg Harbor, WI 54209.

Those attending the graveside service and/or gathering are to wear face masks and maintain social distancing.

Memorials may be given in Katie’s name for the Door County YMCA (membership for all fund).
