Obituary: Laura Jean Sleger

April 17, 1960 – Jan, 12, 2024

Laura Jean Sleger peacefully passed away in her Sturgeon Bay home on Friday, Jan, 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 17, 1960, in Green Bay to Kenneth and Barbara Detrie, Laura’s journey was one filled with love, dedication, and joy.

At the age of ten, Laura moved from Green Bay to Door County. It was on the shores of Clark Lake in Door County that she met the love of her life, Robert. Their union began on June 25, 1978, marking the start of a beautiful and enduring partnership. Laura attended Sevastopol High School and then embarked on her professional journey with her first job at C&S Manufacturing. Later in life, she established her own home cleaning company, showcasing her strong work ethic. Laura took great pride in her children and cherished her role as a mother and grandmother.

Laura symbolized her dedication to her God, Jehovah, in baptism on October 30, 1977. A devoted minister and Bible teacher, Laura touched the lives of many through sharing her faith. Her passion for nature and creation, coupled with a delightful sense of humor, endeared her to all who knew her. 

In the face of her battle with pancreatic cancer, Laura’s faith in the Bible’s promise of a resurrection of the dead and a paradise earth sustained her. During her final months, she took delight in planning her future vegetable garden and envisioning the joy of being reunited with her family. Throughout her courageous fight, Laura’s mantra was “Enjoy the journey!”’ She inspired friends and family to embrace the richness of relationships, savor precious moments, and relish life’s simple pleasures, such as a breathtaking sunset or a warm cup of coffee.

Laura will forever be etched in our hearts as an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Laura is preceded in death by her mother Barbara, father Kenneth, and younger sister Mary Ellen. She is survived by her devoted husband Bob, children: Bryan (Brianne), Nathan (Amanda), Kelsie, and Aria, as well as her sister Terry (Charles) Ouradnik. Laura also leaves behind five grandchildren: Isaac, Benjiman, Olivia, Ezra, and Elliana.

Gathering of family and friends will be held from 1 pm to 2 pm on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 918 E. Circle Ridge Pl, Sturgeon Bay. A funeral service to celebrate Laura’s life will be held at 2 pm at the Kingdom Hall.
